the Florida Building Code states that a permit is required to construct, enlarge, alter, repair, move, demolish or change the occupancy or occupant content of a building or structure or to erect, install, enlarge, alter, repair, remove, convert or replace any electrical, gas, mechanical or plumbing system, the installation of which is regulated by the technical codes.

If you begin construction without the required permit(s), a "Stop Work Order" will immediately be issued by an Inspector. You will be required to apply for the permit(s) and pay additional fees (twice the amount of the original fee).

Why should you get permits for work that has already been completed?

• Unpermitted work creates a safety hazard.

• Unpermitted additions to your property can negatively affect the value of your home.
